Overfields - the forgotten land?

Overfields Estate has become a forgotten land in the area. It's Liberal Democrat Councillors pump out leaflets, but they mean nothing when the estates problems continue. The demise of the Allendale Centre is an absolute disgrace. Once a bustling neighbourhood centre with a butchers, a bakers and a hardware store, it is now barely recognisable. Anti social behaviour has been and still is a problem across the estate.

Ormesby's heritage needs protecting

It would seem that right across the area we are losing parts of our history. In Middlesbrough the recent demolition of the North Riding Infirmary and scientific institute represent this worrying trend. Locally the recent demolition of the old church hall on Ormesby roundabout to be replaced by modern apartments was unbelievable. In Ormesby Hall we have a forgotten gem. Now it is only open to the general public on 2 days a week. We need to be looking after and promoting our heritage, not knocking it down or restricting access to it.

Lib. Dem. leaflets - What they didn't tell you!

In Ormesby and Nunthorpe some local residents get copies of the Liberal Democrat newsletter. In issue 117 they tell residents of Hall Close that they can’t do anything about road widening, the Police have targeted crime hot spots, the bus service is terrible and the Labour Government is providing the money for schools. In other words your Liberal Democrat Councillors have done nothing, but we know some people who have! In issue 118 they tell residents that if they want to object to a telephone mast on Hambleton Hill – phone the council.

Other things they’ve missed from their newsletters –

In 2003 they joined a coalition of Independents and Tories to grab power.

In 2004 they raised your council tax by 6% and then raised their own allowances by as much as 557%!

In 2005 they gave the councils chief executive a £30,000 a year pay rise.

In 2005 they raised your council tax yet again.

In 2006 they raised your council tax yet again.
